Covid-19 'Alert', a historic collaboration between Google and Apple

Google and Apple, the world's evergreen competitor and technology giant, have begun a rare collaboration. The new Bluetooth protocol based contact tracing technology, in an effort by both companies, will give smartphone users an alarm when they are exposed to a potentially corona infected person.

If a person is seen as corona positive, other people who have been in contact with him in the past will also be informed. The local health agency may set such a period for 14 days.

Although the user has to be self-leading for use, it can track more than 3 billion of the world's population, or more than a third of the world's population. This technology will also help health-related government agencies track the spread of coronavirus via Bluetooth technology.

Both companies will make an application programming interface and API public for this in May. Which will make the interoperability between Android and iOS possible.

The two companies will develop operating systems that can track the spread of corona infections via Bluetooth technology, without having to download an app.

They say the tool will be designed with user privacy in mind. Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted on Friday that the technology would be used with "transparency" and "consent".

Apple's release states that the user's location is not required for this technology. Proximity detection technology is reported to change every 15 minutes. The user's location will not be tracked over Bluetooth for an extended period of time.

Emphasis is placed on the user's own interest for the contact tracking protocol. Likewise, Google's release also states that user consent is required and that it does not collect personally identifiable information and location data.

The list of people in your contacts will not be on your phone. Especially since these two companies, who have been the traditional competitors in the smartphone market, have never had this kind of collaboration before. In this sense, it is a historic step.

This project is a recent effort for both Apple and Google to tackle the coronavirus epidemic. Google just released a report of user activity data compiled from its map a few days ago.

The company believed that it would assist health officials in determining that they were not complied with at home.

Apple has also begun to design and produce face shields that are essential for healthcare workers. He has also announced that he will assist 20 million protective masks.

Amazon, another technology company, has begun building a Covid-19 test lab for its employees.

The coronavirus is now spread to almost all countries and regions around the world. As a result, around 17 lakh have been infected and the death toll has exceeded one lakh two thousand.
