Kathmandu, Nov 29 (RSS): The 'Asia Pacific Summit-2018', the first-ever to be held in Nepal, is expected to also help promote 'Nepal Tourism Year-2020'.
It is believed that the Summit, biggest conference following the BIMSTEC meeting attended by high-level delegates from seven countries in April ealier this year, is widely believed to contribute to widen tourism publicity of Nepal.
The Summit is being attended by people belonging to different religions and religious preachers.
According to the host, as many as 1,500 guests from 45 countries including head and deputy head of six countries, five first ladies, 10 former heads of the country, one deputy prime minister, five speakers and deputy speakers are participating in the summit. In order to attend the conference, the distinguished guests and dignitaries from different countries have started to arrive in Kathmandu. The conference is expected to impart message on the process of transformation following the peace process and constitution promulgation in Nepal.
The summit under the theme 'Addressing critical challenges of our time; interdependence, mutual prosperity and universal values' is taking place in Kathmandu from November 30 to December 3.
In course of attending the summit, Myanmar's State Councilor Aang San Suu Kyi and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen have already arrived Kathmandu and are busy holding bilateral meetings and attending other programmes.
Both the leaders are scheduled to have separate meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Likewise, President of Tuvalu Lakoba Taela Italeni has also arrived Kathmandu this afternoon. President of Nauru Baron Waqa and Samoa's Head of the State Afioga Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II are also arriving Kathmandu on Friday.
Vice President of the Philippines Leni Robredo arrived here on Wednesday.
The summit is being hosted by the international Conference of Asian Politics, Universal Peace Federation and International Association of Parliament for Peace, among others with support from the Nepal government and federal parliament Nepal.
Considering the level of dignitaries taking part in the event, the government has made stringent and up-to-day security arrangement for the summit. According to summit assistant coordinator Eknath Dhakal, the government has arranged transportation of the VVIPs and VIPs while other arrangement has been managed by the organizing committee itself. He added that the summit has stressed on the government's motto of 'Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali.' Former Prime Minister and CPN senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal is the coordinator of the summit.
Message of peace process to the world
The summit organizing committee protocol officer Kashinath Khanal said that the summit will hold serious discussions on how to tackle the current challenges of the contemporary world.
Talking to RSS, he shared that the summit will be right forum to deliver the world a message about the peace process of Nepal transforming from a decade long insurgency. He said that we can publicize our Visit Nepal-2020 mission through the 150 VIPs from 45 countries who are attending the summit.
The inaugural session will be addressed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli including Head of the State and Head of the Government of invitee countries. There would be seven thematic sessions in the summit. The paper will be presented on various topics including role of lawmakers on peace, development and good governance, role of civil society and organization based on creed among others.
Prior to this, the summit was held in Senegal of Africa where 54 countries high level delegates had participated.
