Lukaku Shines as United beat Chelsea

It was Conte vs Morhinho, one of the rivals whose some verbal exchange covered huge part in English press in recent weeks coming head to head on Sunday night. The two underperforming English giant both fighting for the Champions League spots nearly over shadowing the Carbola Cup Finale between Man City and arsenal.  With Liverpool claiming the second position with the victory over west Ham in style, it was do or die situation for Manchester United to fight for the top 4 finish. Conte's Chelsea on the other hand was eying to continue their fine form from Stamford Bridge and reduce the point gap from Man city. The host without the likes of Ander Herrera, who got injured in the game against Sevilla played Scott Mctominay in their midfield along with Pogba and Matic. With Chris Smalling partnering Victor Lindelof in the center of United's defence, Young and Valencia played as fullbacks. Upfront Romero Lukaku played as lone striker with Anthony Martial and Sanchez on either side of the field.

The visitors rested Fabregas and Pedro who later came on as subsitute with kante and Drinkwater partnering Willian and Hazard. The game failed to live up the hype with the visitors showing the glimpse of class with free flowing football in the first quarter of game with Morata coming close to score only to be denied by the bar. Nevertheless, it was Willian who opens the score for the visitors with a powerful shot from tight angel but the lead din not last for long with Romero Lukaku leveling the score-line from short range assisted by Anthony Martial . It was Romero lukaku's first goal against the top six opponents. It was his one of the most decorated game in red color with a goal and an assist. Despite the fine performance in the first half by Chelsea they were unable to convert their chances with Alonso c oming close to goal the half ended with the score leveled. The second half was pure master class from Morhinho.

United played well disc iplined football and restricted the Chelsea's Midfield. With Chelsea failing to gain possession and United playing from their mid field it was Lingard who come on as substitute gave the lead to th e host with a sublime finish from Lukaku's cross. Morata's goal was ruled offside by the linesman but the replay showed he was just onside. The host played well organized football till the final whistle restricting the visitors to comeback in the game. The win showed United to the second position on the table with Liverpool trailing on 3rd with just 2 points difference. Spurs with a win over Crystal Palace, thanks to the goal from Harry Kane cl imbed to 4th position, and Chelsea dropped to 5th. Morhinho after the game praise his players attitude to come from behind and winning the game. He said," it's always the tough fixture hosting Chelsea but our players showed a great intention with a comeback. Scott played fantastic today, Matic was great and so was Pogba.

It always great feeling to win against top teams. It was very good second half from my team and Lingard continue his fine form." United will hope to continue this form in ULC where they will host Sevilla on the second leg. With the title hope al most gone United will try to advance in ULC and FA cup; theirs only hope of silverware this season
