The number of applicants has increased since the Department of Transportation Management issued a notice to take action against vehicles without embossed number plates in Sawan 1st, according to the Transport Office, Ekannatkuna.

The Department of Transport Management has designated Ekantakuna Transport Office Lalitpur for small and large vehicles in Bagmati Pradesh and Garjudhara Office for motorcycles. Clients who want to Implement embossed number plates have to go to one of these two offices according to their Vehicles.

According to Sambar Bahadur Karki, head of the Ekantakuna office, the number of applications has increased in the last two days. Karki said Earlier that 20/30 applications were received daily but now 60/70 applications are being received daily.

Karki said that the number of service recipients has increased due to the information that action will be taken from the New fiscal year. ‘The number plate has already been printed. The number plate can be attached within two days of registering the application.

According to the Vehicle and Transport Management Rules 2054 BS, an embossed number system has been implemented in Nepal for the first time. Embossed number plates are the latest technology number plates used in developed countries to manage vehicles. With the implementation of this system, the plates of 23 types of vehicles have been limited to 5 types, special and separate for government, private, diplomatic missions and public and for the President.

Costs for Embossed Number Plates?

The department has divided the cost of number plates into four parts including two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles. According to the department, two-wheelers will cost Rs 2,500.

Three-wheelers cost Rs 2,900, four-wheelers Rs 3,200 and large vehicles Rs 3,600.

Misunderstanding of the embossed number plate

Director-General of the Department of Transport Management (DOTM) Namaraj Ghimire has further clarified that an embossed number plate has been made mandatory. According to him, it has not been said that embossed number plates will be made mandatory on all vehicles from Sawan 1st.

According to Director General Ghimire, embossed number plates will be made mandatory only for newly registered and registered vehicles from Sawan 1st. According to him, for other old vehicles, the offices will fix the time by determining the lot when going for renewal.

According to the information published in the Nepal Gazette, even though the number plate has to be taken while registering the vehicle last November 1, the transport management offices have not shown interest. “Vehicles coming for renewal from Sawan and renewal from June 1 should be asked to get an embossed number,” he said.
