This step is part of Nepal’s move toward modern, technology-based traffic management and is already being implemented in key areas of Kathmandu.

Where the On-the-Spot Traffic Fine System Started

According to Metropolitan Traffic Police spokesperson Sanjiv Sharma Das, the first phase of this service has started at five major traffic offices:

  • Gaushala

  • Durbar Marg

  • Thapathali

  • Jawalakhel

  • Janasewa

The Traffic Police Department plans to gradually expand this system across other offices in Nepal.

How to Pay Traffic Fines Instantly

With this system, drivers can pay fines directly at the spot:

✅ Use QR code payment by entering your cheat number and receipt number via mobile.
✅ Get your documents back immediately after payment.
✅ Save time and avoid long queues at traffic offices.

For most traffic rule violations, drivers will receive a 24-hour permit after being fined. Documents will be returned once the fine is settled.

Exceptions: When You Must Attend Training

Not all drivers are eligible for instant document return. If you violate major traffic rules such as:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol 🍺

  • Ignoring lane discipline

  • Running red lights 🚦

You must complete traffic awareness training before documents are returned.

Technology-Based Traffic Fine Payment in Nepal

The new system, called “Pay Fine on the Spot – Instant Payment System”, was launched by SSP Janak Bhattarai, Chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.

He highlighted that Nepal’s traffic service is moving toward digitization and smart policing. Previously, drivers had to:

  • Pay fines online or at a branch of Global IME Bank

  • Visit the concerned traffic office with proof of payment

  • Collect documents in person

Now, with QR-based on-the-spot payment, the process has become much easier.
